Netflix made a statement on Monday about the outstanding performance of its original series such as House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black. Orange Is the New Black “will end the year as our most-watched original series ever and, as with each of our other previously launched originals, enjoys an audience comparable with successful shows on cable and broadcast TV,” reads the third-quarter letter signed by CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells. House of Cards was the first web-only series to win any primetime Emmy award.
These series really are the future of television. Netflix was able to mine the data of their customers and figure out what kind of show the wanted and how they wanted to watch it. It was obviously incredibly successful and I believe that most any television series would benefit from being on Netflix. Customers want instant access to programming and with sites like Netflix they can have it.
Netflix has more original series in the making and I believe that this type of programming will continue to expand as customers expose themselves to it.
